If you at any point have ever been a child (something which applies to many of us) then chances are you've come across Eric Carle's classic "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".
It is a staple of children's literary circles and I always love bringing it out with my students. But, of course, being Jenny of Kodaly Crafts I decided to find a way to implement puppets!
I already have this guy, who I've written about already:
So instead I decided to incorporate a range of puppets related to the foods in the book
In case you don't have your copy of the book handy, this little guy gets through an awful lot of food over the course of the week. Those foods include:
Monday = One apple
Tuesday= Two pears
Wednesday= Three plums
Thursday = Four strawberries
Friday = Five Oranges
Saturday: chocolate cake, an ice cream cone, pickles, swiss cheese, salami, sausage, cupcake, watermelon, a lollipop and a slice of cherry pie!
Now there are some kits already made that you can purchase at an Etsy store:
Or you can try making your own!
I got busy over the holidays sewing up a storm and created a few of these delicious foods. I've already written about apples and ice cream cones, but you can grab the pattern for my strawberries in next week's blog post and some of the other foods such as oranges can be as simple as painting a styrofoam ball! Use your imagination and any old crafty materials you might have lying around.
I'd love to see what ideas you come up with, feel free to drop me a line with some photos at jenny@kodalycrafts.com !
