In the early weeks of Prep music, we read a lot of books. I like books as a way of settling the class into routines, of getting used to moving from elsewhere in the room to the mat area, and of making links to the literacy curriculum.
An old favourite of mine (and many other teachers I know) is "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle.
But I came across a new version of this story and was so excited to see it involved puppets!
There is a central caterpillar finger puppet attached to the middle of the book and you can make him eat his way through all the different foods on each page!
Take a look in this read-along video below:
This has been a fun experience to read to my new preps this year and they loved getting to come up and pat the caterpillar.
You can purchase it from many book shops, but I found mine at Big W
